Like the author says in her introduction, I went into reading this book thinking there wasn't much more I could learn about virginity. By was I wrong. The info on hymens alone is worth picking up the book, but there are also chapters on the history of the importance and even definition of virginity, virginity tests through the ages, virginity in Christianity, and virginity in the modern age.. It does have a Western focus, with the only non-Western info being about the Rom defloration ceremony.
