It's a good story, but the timeline is weird and it wasn't as full of action as I was expecting for a zombie book. There were a few things that got on my nerves, but maybe that's just me.
For example, Maddie is blind, which is such an interesting POV in a post-apocalyptic world. My problem with it is that the majority of fight scenes were from her POV... Great way of showing the uncertainty and her vulnerability, but it gets kind of boring after a time or two? It almost seemed as a lazy way to get out of writing fight scenes.
Also, Saff being asthmatic was a great add-on, but badly executed. I'm expected to believe that a woman who didn't have access to her regular treatment for a while gets a cough from the city dust, but gets out of a house fire just fine? Even a healthy person would get a bronchospasm from the smoke, and she's fine? Also, what is it with writers thinking a single dose of oral penicillin heals such a complicated infected wound? A wound like that would've been the end for her without the right antibiotics.
Finally, the words "smirked" and "muttered" were waaaaaaaaay too used.
Otherwise, loved seeing a sapphic adult couple, loved that Maddie wasn't just a damsel in distress but a strong character on her own without diminushing the handicap blindness can cause and I appreciated that Saff's medical background was useful but ultimately limited because of lack of ressources.
Nice book, but I'm glad I didn't buy it. Good choice if you like a slowburn with a stoic woman and new representation of disabilities, not such a good choice for post-apocalyptic fiction.
(English isn't my first language sorry if my writing seems weird)

I absolutely devoured this book. The slow burn romance between Saff and Maddie was perfect, and I love these characters so much. What an emotional roller coaster wow I need some time to recover
