The reviews are off-the-charts positive. 4.73 on Goodreads; 4.8 on Amazon. Why? As the reviewers all tell us, it’s very simple:

☑ Walking Dead + Lesbian Romance
☑ Sapphic Walking Dead
☑ Lesbians + Zombies

Never mind that it’s completely derivative – in true fanfic style, Maser rips the premise, setting and ambiance straight from The Walking Dead, just tossing in a couple of lost lesbians. Never mind that there is no pushback against The Walking Dead’s masculinist, dog-eat-dog vision of what a post-apocalpytic world would look like. Never mind that the writing is lazy, convoluted and cliché-ridden, or that errors in spelling and grammar abound.

None of that matters, because Walking Dead-style stories are pulse-poundingly addictive. It’s like a drug. It’s what people crave. Especially lesbians. Starving for good romance, we relish a danger-drenched saga of two women fighting overwhelming odds to find and keep each other, technical quality be damned. Lesbians and zombies. Yay!

And what's with that awful cover?! Why in the heck is the badass butch wearing makeup as she fights off the zombie hordes*?!

*Yes, dear author, it's zombie hordes, not hoards.

But I have to confess that I devoured it, too, flaws notwithstanding. For that reason alone, I guess it deserves a few stars.
