Grunt rasp grumble mumble - saff throughout the entirety of the book. Take a drink every time the word seemed/seemingly/seeming is used. Almost every breath is 'released' or 'loosed'. please stop.
The chemistry build-up is just 'something happens to Maddie and Saff rasps' plus 'something happens to Saff and Maddie demands to see her' and I hated it. No idea why Maddie got away with demanding so much from strangers as if she was in a position to do so but okay.
For it being a zombie apocalypse book they sure don't happen across a whole lot of zombies.

“You want me,” she breathed, the words twisting like an insult. “And you can’t handle it.”
OH MY WORD ... my love for this book is indescribable. It's basically 'The Last of Us', but Maddie is blind and Saff is a reformed "bad guy."
Definitely, one of my favorite parts of the book is the banter between Maddie and Saff, when the one puts the life in danger to save the other ... I mean, Maddie ran into an ambush for Saff, and Saff ran into a burning building for Maddie.
Quotes:
• “I fucking hate you.”
“Good,” Saff spat back. “Now maybe next time you won’t almost get yourself killed for me.”
•“Or what about kissing me?” Maddie asked, “Was that for your own survival?”
She could’ve sworn Saff’s breathing stopped altogether then.
•“It took everything in me to not get my rifle and hunt every one of them down.”
•“Your family’s nice. I like being around them.” ... “That’s good,” Maddie mumbled, a tired lull in her voice. “You’ll be around them for a while.”
•You,” Saff continued, the words careful and precise, “are the reason I’m still breathing right now.”

I really wanted to keep reading, but the story feels lackluster and flavorless. Maybe if I had never read or watched any zombie stories before, I would’ve stuck with it longer. Unfortunately, this book not only fails to offer anything new to the genre, it also struggles with the basics.
The world building is nonexistent. There’s no tension, no emotional pull, I didn’t feel scared or even remotely invested. The characters are flat, with no chemistry between them, and the dialogue feels thrown together, lacking depth. There are almost no descriptions to bring scenes or emotions to life. How is it possible that I’ve read over 100 pages and almost nothing has happened???????

Didn't connect with the characters. One is a medical doctor, survivalist, MMA fighter, trained with multiple military grade weapons by her father. The other is a blind rich girl with no skills who spent most of the apocalypse in a gated community. Weird dynamic having one character be so overpowered and the other so very useless. The plot was also very predictable and unsurprising. I skimmed a lot in the second half because too many new characters were introduced and I didn't care about any of them. I was kind of hoping some of them would get killed off but no, almost all of them lived. Felt like the author was pulling punches
