Slow burn friends to lovers story that kept a smile on my face the entire time I was reading. I adored these characters and their banter, but there wasn't much else so if the humor doesn't work for you then this book will probably be a miss.
I wish we'd been let in on Laurie's big secret sooner. I understand why he didn't tell Mags, but we were in his POV long enough that it felt a bit weird that the reader didn't know.

The non-stop banter in this one actually exhausted me. At least to the point where I dropped it (about 54% in), almost every single conversation was crammed full of sarcastic jokes and people throwing their heads back with uproarious laughter. It was just way too much, way too often.

A near perfect rom-com featuring a charismatic barrister and a famous portrait artist, and filled with hilarity, steamy sex and a crazed mutt in between.
Magnus Carlsen, as the name suggests, sounds like fine wine and very much a man's man whose revolving door of young twinks is a known-hobby. So when he meets Laurie, his neighbor's brother who happens to be also his best friend's brother who also happens to be the judge's stepson, Magnus gives in to the serendipitous meetings and the two become peas in a pod.
Magnus doesn't entertain more than friendship as Laurie isn't half his age and is only temporarily house-sitting for his brother but that doesn't stop them for exploring the city to check off Laurie's bucket list.
The banter between Magnus and Laurie is mostly witty, subconsciously flirty and the lines get so blurred that everybody but the two can see them. I loved every minute of their dialogue except the annoying "Ack" that Magnus utters a hundred times. Otherwise, their laugh-out-loud sarcastic remarks make waves, as well as their tension-filled silences.
Concisely-written and evenly paced, this book is definitely Beautifully Unexpected.
