I felt like nothing really happened in the first half of this book but I ended up liking it (well, minus the gross parts) overall. It definitely felt like a nod to the 80s horror movie era, which was fun.

The highlight of this thriller/horror was the nostalgia for us 80’s kids. There were constant toy, food, movie, tv, store, activity, politics, world events, & of course music references that were a literal blast from my past! Every chapter title corresponding to an 80’s Pop song, was fun. I sang them all in my head! 

But, the lowest point happened at the 75% point, & had that been earlier, I would have DNF’ed…that scene (& the fact it was as first assumed) seriously shot the rating of this. Trigger warning for animal harm. A few other scenes were annoyingly overdone, as well, so the pop culture of the era was overshadowed by those few poor choices of content (for me, anyhow).

Main theme:  female friendship/coming of age was well-executed
