I wasn't too impressed with the first book in the series but apparently was intrigued enough to keep reading. Three books in and I'm really enjoying it. It's just a fun read. The book keeps a great pace and I didn't feel the drag at all of it being 550 pages. Hopefully I feel the same with the 800+ pages of the fourth book.

This book is improved tremendously over the last one just in that we aren't introducing any new characters. It's still bloated, but the two main plot threads feel much more balanced. I still have a lot of confusion around the worldbuilding that I think I've accepted just won't get answered, but it's a fun story.

What can I say except I love Emperor Kai a thousand times more after reading Cress and though Cress and Thorne are the main characters here, I feel this book is all about Cinder and Kai!
