This was a surprise in a little free library by my work and I'm glad I grabbed it. Quick read, took it down in a slow day at the office which felt a bit too meta at times. I liked the shifting POVs, it really humanized a mc who otherwise might have been a bit too annoying.

Dark and depressing but funny too! What more can one want ☺️
it's was too mundane for me, who likes mundane stuff. i guess i don't wanna read about work after i got done working lol. i get her depressive state, but i just didn't wanna read about work in the most boring way. I'd recommend Ripe, which has similar themes, but it's stronger in voice and pulling in the reader than this book

The main character was offputting from the beginning and yet somehow the book wasn’t? That’s an impressive feat. There were lots of good moments in this that made Millie’s personality more tolerable. I found her observations on friendship and connection especially compelling.
While the plot wasn’t that interesting (Temporary by Hilary Leichter set a high standard for temp job narratives for me), the writing was strong enough to make an unlikeable character seem nuanced and a slow storyline feel entertaining. I’ll definitely be checking out more of Halle Butler’s work after this.
