great Y/A read

No sé pero no me gustó mucho...

This book absolutely touched my heart. Such a amazing read and it talks about the realness of life.

this is only my second Colleen Hoover book, and since i know she mostly writes romance novels i expected this to be one ; i quickly realized that while it does have romance, this story is mostly about Merit's—the main character—self journey and her relationship with all the members in her family. i had read the reviews on this book beforehand and most people weren't that impressed by it, so my expectations weren't very high when i started reading, but i was pleasantly surprised !

Merit has a large dysfunctional family and often feels invisible among them, which is why i found myself relating to her on more than one occasion. i also loved how Colleen handled the subject of depression, and made it a point in the novel to try and destigmatize it, which i really appreciated. also, she really makes the reader feel like they are a part of the Voss family, because you see all of their flaws and sometimes hate them, but at the end of the day you learn to forgive their mistakes alongside Merit—except for Utah : he's a creep and can rot in hell. as for the name choices in this book, it was definitely unusual and i'm not sure i like all of them, but it's definitely a bold choice and there's a special place in my heart for the name Sagan <3 so pretty !!

I didn’t love this book but I did like it. The plot and characters are very creative and the book has a really great message in it.

This book dove into the aspect of an imperfect family. It shows that out in public, the family may seem normal and happy, but behind closed doors is a different story.

My favorite character is Luck. He first showed up out of the blue and asked Merit for a ride. Not knowing that he is her step-uncle, she offers to drop him off at his sister's house. She tells him the secret that she is trying to keep from her sister, and her newfound crush, Sagan.

Luck came from all over since he has been working on a cruise ship for a while. When he settled down and told Merit why she may have depression, it hurt me. He explained that many people don't know that they have it until they start having thoughts that they are not worthy enough to live.

This book only got a 4/5 star review because it didn't give me enough backstory as her other books do.

Again, read this for the second time and IT'S ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER

Honestly I know coho gets a lot of hate for her books, but when I just want a book that’s more of an easy read she’s perfect for it. Finished it in one day and I love books that I can do that with.

Had a few shocking things to it I must admit and for the most part it did have me hooked, which is always great. Was a bit all over the place at time and some bits felt a bit unnecessary, but nether the less I I enjoyed it.

Some of the subjects were erm interestingly done. The mental health aspect of things was very looked over despite some of the things that were mentioned and the only outcome was family therapy?????

Also civil war and romance?????

This was a nice, easy listen. It hit on some heavy topics for sure! It was a little frustrating because so much went wrong due to lack of communication. Along with just outright avoiding talking about certain situations. Overall, it was ok. Worth the listen, I think.

Somehow I love to read about dysfunctional family dynamics, but I also needed a quick and easy read, so Without Merit was just about right for me. The Voss family came with a lot of flaws, but their flaws didn’t feel immensely to make this a hard read.

I am a bit conflicted about the way the author picked and chose sensitive issues for the purpose of character building or plot twisting. And some dialogues (the one about Syria for example) felt more like an infodump and weren’t convincing at all.

Still loved the message of hope.
