It was really weird, and I wasnt sure what was going on half the time. As I got after halfway, it got better and I started to get hooked and wanting to know how it would end after merit took the drugs
4.5
It's official. I would die for Colleen Hoover. She can't write one bad book, can she?

There was so much going on in this book… It felt like a trope salad and the situations that the characters were put in were crazy specific and unlikely. I mean let me list some plot points: they lived in an old church and had a Jesus statue in their living room that Merit would dress up, their dad cheated on their mom with her nurse and both women live in the church (their mom confines herself to the basement and is going crazy), their hot young step uncle comes to live with them and almost sleeps with two of his step nieces/nephews (consensually), also some non-consensual incest type behavior, trigger warning for a suicide attempt, some very questionable things happen to a dog, etc.
The only character I actually liked was Sagan but he was very mysterious for most of the book so I didn’t even know who he was until the end. Also can we talk about how the siblings are named Honor, Merit, and Utah?? And their step uncle is Luck?

I went into this book with low expectations based on other reviews, but once I started reading I could not put the book down. Coho tackled tough issues like depression, childhood traumas, dysfunctional families, and, even first loves, beautifully in this story.
3.25:) missed so much to be honest. this book had so much potential

It was extremely relatable. I have felt similar things to the main character. Not to the same extent.
Colleen Hoover is having a moment right now. So you almost have to be reading something she’s written. This is my second book of hers. I liked it better than Verity. I’ll say that for sure.
If you’re looking for a nice quick read with a tidy story, I’d say this is it. This could almost be a young adult story if not for all content probably not appropriate for most young adults. Although…it’s probably pretty close to the lives of many. Complicated. Messy. Impulsive. Like teenagers pretty much.
The romantic story will give you all the feels, if you’re into that. If your family is anywhere near as dysfunctional as mine was, the family drama will remind you of your own.
It’s a feel-good story. Not sure I agree with “not all mistakes deserve consequences”, but I don’t have to agree with it to read it.
