Although not one of my TOP Hoover reads, Without Merit brings something super important to the table, and that's the topic of mental health.

If you've read a Hoover book before, you already know that she doesn't shy away from heavy topics. What I've also learned about reading and reviewing her books is that not everyone always understands these situations. A lot of times these characters aren't relatable to the reader because we can't fathom someone actually putting themselves in these predicaments. Alcoholism, drug abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, depression, suicide.... these things happen in every day life and it's something that isn't talked about enough. So although YOU may not relate to a particular topic.... someone out there is crying through this read feeling understood. I commend Colleen for always bringing these topics to light.

For me it was just full of problematic areas and confusing rep that while I am writing this review I am quite tempted to lower my rating. But I do give credit (or merit?) where credit is due. This book is still a page turner and I did love the opening chapters. I guess I can also overlook all the mansplaining done to wrap-up a lot of the issues at the end. I do wish all of the characters a happy ever after. For the full review: https://princessandpages.wordpress.com/2018/11/16/book-review-without-merit-by-colleen-hoover/

This book challenges the complexities of human nature. It gives you hope that once you deal with the challenges of life and your own internal conflict that there’s hope at the end of the rainbow.

Not my fave by any means. What a bummer. Usually, I leave these books with nothing but respect for Hoover's ability to skate the line of angst and melodrama, along with keeping a book perfectly paced.

This book reads like a preachy self-help version of her books and pretty much nothing else happens of note except that every single time you think, "this book is so weird, it could not get any weirder" let me assure you, you are WRONG about that.

If I went into detail it would be spoilery, so if you want details you can message me I guess. But GOOD LORD SO WEIRD.

I really hope the next one is more like her classic writing style. This book was not for me.
