Me siento triste de poner esta calificación pero después de mucho razonarlo así me siento con este libro.
No puedo decir que lo odié porque no, pero no fue mi favorito de Colleen ni por asomo. PERO hay muchas cosas que disfruté del libro.
Con Colleen he tenido una relación demasiado peculiar. Creo que lo expliqué en mi reseña de It Ends With Us pero lo haré otra vez como una justificación más a mi raiting. El primer libro que leí de ella lo detesté bastante, también lo había leído con una traducción promedio pero los personajes se me hicieron muy vacíos. Después leí IEWU y me enamoré tanto que me tuve que tatuar algo de ese libro. Confess me gustó pero no me maravilló y con Without Merit me sorprendí pero no me gustó.
Puntos buenos del libro:
–La escritura de Colleen siempre se me ha hecho maravillosa, me engancha y hace para mí las lecturas más ajenas.
–La familia Voss. Era tan desordenada y peculiar que yo sólo quería saber más y más de lo que sucedía detrás de la Iglesia convertida en casa. Fue creo yo el punto más fuerte de todo el libro y el que hizo a su vez que no fuera capaz de ponerle menos estrellas. Todos en la familia me cayeron bien y mal en algún momento del libro, la Mamá de Merit y Moby.
–Todo el concepto de la Iglesia y los Trofeos, muy buen toque.
–Sagan y sus dibujos y toda la historia detrás de él. Para mí, él era el mejor personaje del libro, pero a su vez demasiado perfecto en ciertas ocasiones. Era la voz de la razón y por eso me cagaba Merit por la forma en que hacía suposiciones por tonterías. Pero Sagan en sí, me gustó bastante, fue con el que sentí más empatía.
Puntos malos del libro:
–Vamos a empezar con esto porque es lo que MÁS me molesta de Colleen: El instalove tan PENDEJO. Sorry Colleen pero una persona que ama tus libros tiene que hacerte saber que los protagonistas no deben enamorarse/besarse en la página 11. ONCE. WHAT. Después lo arreglaste un poco pero era obvio a donde ibas con eso. Está bien un instalove de vez en cuando pero que agregues esa receta en cada puto libro llega a ser desesperante. Fue una de las razones por las que amé IEWU, porque al menos la pareja que apoyaré hasta morir tardaron en conocerse. Me diste tiempo de encariñarme y después verlos juntos y no me obligaste (que así me siento con el insta love) a quererlos.
–Merit, en todos lo sentidos. Okay, entiendo que ella debía ser así de desesperante por todo el transfondo que tenía todo lo que había vivido y que además debía de tener un character development. Pero eso no hace que en la mayoría de las páginas me cayera mal. Por que sí, debo de admitir que a veces me hacía reír, que me hizo reír lo del "bastardo" pero luego pienso en las repercusiones que tuvo eso a Moby y yo no puedo. Que si tenía ciertos aspectos salvables pero yo sé que hay una línea en donde señalas más lo bueno porque predomina y este no es el caso.
–Y eso va para la familia, porque a pesar de interesarme, Honor y el papá tampoco eran personajes muy queridos por mí. En realidad, tampoco Victoria y Utah pero es que con ellos cuatro lo que más me interesaba es que iba a suceder no que les sucedía a ellos.
–La relación de Merit y Sagan, era tan mala y predecible que Colleen no se esforzó en desarrollarla como debería. Sagan intentaba mucho por ella pero Merit tan testaruda no hacía caso a lo que él decía y sólo se justificaba diciendo que era impulsiva e impulsiva y que no podía cambiar eso de ella pero que no mamara tanto.
Y para resumir, es un libro muy diferente a lo que he leído de Colleen, tiene sus mismos fallos pero si recomendaría que lo leyeran para que ustedes se hagan los propios juicios. Porque puede que a mi no me gustó pero a alguien más sí. Y si estás empezando a leer a esta autora yo recomendaría que este fuera el 2do o 3er libro que se lee porque puede gustar más así. O no.

This is unlike anything I have ever read from Colleen Hoover. In fact, I think that she can write anything regardless of genre and still have a major hit on her hands. She proves this in Without Merit- a quirky, somewhat dry and emotional read that dives deep into mental illness.
When I first began reading this I remember thinking to myself, this is not Colleen Hoover! There is no romance or plight! But there is. It's just underneath all the important stuff that many authors fear to touch upon. And then, I continued reading the poetic words and brilliancy behind character motives and I thought, yup! It actually is work by Colleen Hoover. For some reason, her words and the way she puts stories together really set her apart from others. Readers feel like they are a part of the story in some shape or form and become emotionally involved and invested in what happens to the characters. At first, it is a bit tough to become emotionally invested in Merit because she is very DRY. She is also one dimensional, see's everything as if it were only one sided, and literally only knows how to judge based on her own perspective. Some readers may not like her character and I can understand why. But when the emotional journey hits it peak and things begin to slowly change within her eyes then YOUR perspective of her character is bound to change. For me, this is one of the most impactful books I have read by Colleen and I think she does a wonderful job at bringing dysfunctional and somewhat unlikable characters into human beings right before our eyes. I commend her for this, and I commend her bravery at bringing mental illness into a book because it's something we as readers seek more of (it makes them more realistic, right?).
With that, readers are going to experience something very different with this book. I myself absolutely LOVED it for reasons that I mentioned above PLUS the fact that we got to get a good look at how depression can affect a person- especially someone who is YOUNGER and more prone to act rashly.
I won't dive into the plot because there is no way that I can do it justice, it just needs to be read and felt by readers. But I will say that it is different than Colleen's other books as this is more of a young adult drama novel than a romance. There is also a ton of dysfunctional things going on within the Voss house that is all sorts of messed up as well, but that's for you to find out on your own.
If you’re a fan of Colleen Hoover- grab this one! I know you probably will anyway because she is a #1click author for many. If you like young adult, domestic dramas that discuss mental illness then this would also be a great book for you. I assure you, it will open your eyes to a totally different world.

One of my favourite Colleen Hoover books, for sure. I sped through this book because there was just so much happening and so much emotional turmoil that I just didn't want to put the book down. Merit Voss deserves the world and I will stand by that.
A pretty typical portrayal of teenage angst, this novel follows 17-year-old Merit as she struggles through family issues and a crush on her twin sister's boyfriend. I suspect that as a thirty-something, I've aged out of this novel, but it might be appropriate for a younger generation. Merit's dysfunctional family - her father and new wife live upstairs, while her biological (divorced) mother lives in the basement - will leave you appreciating your own family. The story is well-written in the present tense, and enjoyable despite its defecits.
I really enjoyed this book. I wanted to keep listening! It’s not really earth shattering but it seems unique. It’s quite unpredictable in that everything is so random. But I did really come to like Merit.
While not graphic in anyway, it does discuss sex in a rather casual way, specifically as it pertains to teenagers... so for that reason this would not be one I would recommend to everyone.

This book was so weird and I loved it. Genuinely had me so second hand embarrassed the entire time and I couldn’t. It started super strong and stayed strong but dropped my interest in the last 50 or so pages. But still so good and so DIFFERENT.
