So dry and so repetitive but I guess that’s a retention technique?

Good introduction to such theories like race, deconstructive, post-colonial, etc. However, I did found the feminist and queer chapters quite problematic. It is a good source for beginners, however, I recommend finding other sources if you want to be specific.

This textbook is accessible and a great introduction to Critical Theory. I would have read this textbook even if it hadn’t been required for a course in Literary Criticism. It has already helped me write several papers and analyze texts. It will be one of those books that rarely remains on the shelf.

This is a textbook, but I'm counting it because I've read it cover to cover and it's an AWESOME textbook.

If you are at all interested in Literary Theory this is hands down the best book to introduce yourself to it.

So user friendly, but because it goes over theories and not theorists it is not as thorough as expected. A few important theorists are left out. It is still a simplified version, providing a cohesive understanding to theory.

This book should be the universal primer on critical theory; it's accessible yet informative, rich with models and abstract philosophy alike.
