Pure adventure from start to finish. This is my first Neil Gaiman read and I’m excited to read more of his books, and await the release of a second book! Loved Richard, Door, Carabas and even the Hunter, can’t wait to read the second!
This is a very quick, fun read, but not too much beyond that. The story is imaginative, but rather shallow and is never entirely fleshed out.
Thanks to Gaiman's imagination, Neverwhere is still a fun and worthwhile read, although not in the same league as his later works, the best of which being American Gods.
Update: Listened to the full cast audio, featuring James McAvoy, Natalie Dormer, Benedict Cumberbatch, Christopher Lee, and Anthony Head, and it was an amazing audioplay condensed down to three hours.

This took me so long to read and I don’t know why. I think I got bored halfway through, but ultimately it was fun as a whole.
Read somewhere that if you won't read something a second time, you shouldn't read it the first time. Debatable? Certainly. Does it put me off? Certainly not.
I'd read Neverwhere more than a decade ago, in a different life, as a different person, really. Seeing as I now call London home, it felt just right to revisit the story that goes at length about London Above and Below. The recognition and affiliation hit when they would have missed the first time, though the story remains captivating, funny and thrilling.
Dare I say, I loved the second trip all the more for all the time that has passed, for all the *doors* that I've opened ever since. And all the doors I'm yet to open!

I kept thinking the same thing the entire time I was reading this book: I would have loved to read this story as a young reader. Mystery, adventures, and a magical world you couldn’t dream up yourself. I loved this book all the way through. I hated that I couldn’t predict how the story will end, which made me love it so much more. I’m going to miss this book and all of its whimsical, mostly unfriendly, brave characters.

Neil Gaiman remains one of my favorite authors. This book supports that - I love his use of language and ingenious plot ideas, and I'd recommend this to anyone who needs a summer read.
