[b:Catalyst|12202480|Catalyst, (Collide #3)|Shelly Crane|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1312951294s/12202480.jpg|17175193] is the third installment in the Collide series by [a:Shelly Crane|4951964|Shelly Crane|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1324143524p2/4951964.jpg]. Going into this book I thought this was the last in the series but I was utterly proved wrong by the bit of a cliffhanger at the end. Oh Shelly Crane, what are you doing to me?!?!

At the end of the second book, Sherry has been taken captive by the Lighters for interrogation. Now her “family” must try to save her (yet again.) By doing so they will be introducing new characters into their lives, some good, some not so good.

The one thing that I love about this series is that you get to see different points of view from the characters. It started out as a story between Sherry and Merrick. I was happy to see that Catalyst had an equal amount of Cain and Lillian also. I mean, who wouldn’t want to experience more of Cain? You are also able to get a glimpse into the mind of the tamed Lighter, Daniel, and the Taker.

I will be eagerly awaiting the 4th book in this series!

I really want to know what happens! Why do authors leave ever book in a cliffhanger? I know it is to get the reader to read the next book but, WHY? Why are we always tortured with never ending stories? Don't get me wrong, I love series books but having to wait for almost a year to read the next one is just plain torture! I want to know what happens to Merrick and Sherry, Lily, Lillian and Cain, Jef and Marrisa, Josh...everyone! :/ When is the next book out?

I swear it's like lather, rinse, repeat. The same old, same old crap.
Something goes wrong.
Guys want girls to stay behind.
Girls want to go with.
Guys either give in and all hell breaks loose or girls have mopey thoughts of feeling useless and blah blah blah.
I'm kind of getting tired of these girls and their crap.
3 down, 1 to go.

I stayed up until 2 am because I had to finish this book! In the beginning of the book, the Lighters captured Sherry and took her to their facility. The new Taker is stepping up his game, by offering large rewards to anyone who brings in a member of the resistance. Daniel was the Lighter in the last book who suddenly develops a conscience, (unheard of prior to this) and helped Lillian, and Cain escape. He becomes an important player, as well as a few other newbies. They brought Billings along as a converted rebel, and his status as an enforcer gives them an in that they didn't have before. Lily is freaking precious, and has started to see signs of a gift. Polly and Pipa are still world class b****es, and I would have turned them loose ages ago.

***Spoilers***
Not only did Pipa & Polly use compulsion on Merrick to make him believe he saw Sherry and Cain kissing, but at the end the used it on Sherry to make her think they had plenty of food. Daniel helps Sherry while she is in the containment facility, and in the end helps them rescue her, and another girl. Once they get back from the rescue they make a plan to go out and rescue other resistors who are in hiding. One of the first groups they come across is the pastor that married them, and his tough as nails daughter. She and Miguel (Aussie) hate each other at first sight, which makes me believe there may be a little romance later. Daniel is obsessed with Lillian, but she tells him she is in love with Cain. After one group rescues the pastor, and the other group is attacked and Billings breaks an arm they all return from their mission early to find Lighters attacking their home. Every time the kill them all more come. Even with Daniels help, when the last group, and the Taker show up, they are all resigned to their fate. Lillian (with Daniels help, which Cain is threatening to kill him for) pretends she is done with the group, and wants to become one of the Taker groupies. He leaves with her, leaving his Lighters to finish the job. The resistors take care of them quickly enough, but then head out to rescue Lillian. Right as they come up on the car they see an explosion. Lillian took a homemade bomb and matches, and kills the new Taker. When they get her back she dies in Cain's arms from the burns, but Lily is able to heal her. Once they are all settled, they know they will have to move because their location has been compromised. Add that with the fact they are out of food, and everyone is on edge. A sneak attack from a lingering lighter kills Merrick, and at the end Lily is attempting to save him by pulling the life from the Lighter to transfer to Merrick. I'm sure he lives, but we won't know for a few weeks.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: 5 stars -- Well, if you're on the 3rd book, you gotta know you're sucked right in, so are the reviews even relevant anymore? I mean, could you really not read the rest? Might go down to 4.5 stars, but can't decide once I get this far in a series unless there is something really bad. At least the cliffhanger wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Love the characters, love the world....looking forward to more.

ON REREAD: 4.5 stars -- OK, now this is what I'm talking about!! Holy cow was there lots of happenings in this one!!! I can't believe I waited 4 years before getting to finally read the conclusion, I must have been crazy!! Lots of great characters to love, a crazy amount of suspense and action at times (at least to me), and some delicious romance in the middle. I have no idea how this series is going to end, it's going to be epic!!

This is probably my favorite in the series, so far. There was drama, betrayal, and unexplainable changes.

It was great to see Sherry show different emotions. She even got angry, which is something we haven't seen her do. There are more battles, and relationships of those in the bunker change. I liked that there were more battles, and they weren't all Sherry centered. I swear that woman is a magnet for trouble. I have to say, I absolutely adore Lily. She's intelligent and beyond perceptive for her age. I really want to know her part in all of this. The Specials also start fighting alongside their Keepers. Like I said, I loved that there was more action.

The thing I love about this series is that Crane lets people die. She doesn't try to keep them alive when they aren't needed so as not to disappoint people. The deaths in the series so far have served a purpose for the rest of this makeshift family.

And OH MY WOW what a cliffhanger. I'm excited to see how Revolution ends this series.

NO! It seriously didn't just end like that! AHHHHH!!!!!

This book was the best out of the three so far in this series. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time with everything that happened with these people. Seriously, Shelly, where you do come up with this stuff? I couldn't even take a breath so much was going on and happening. Your characters had it right when they kept asking how much more could they take, I wasn't sure I could take anymore either, lol. I'm seriously dying for the next book, what a cruel way to leave a reader hanging (hint, hint)... ;)
