I can't remember exactly when I read these books but I know I really liked them. It was back in high school or possibly even middle school but I still remember a lot of the characters and scenes. I own the first three... I should re-read them I guess. I often feel scared to re-read books (or re-visit any media) I liked a lot as a kid though, because what if I don't like them as much as an adult and the memory is ruined??

Are you looking for dragons, destiny, and daughters? Well do I have the book for you! High fantasy vibe mixed with strong women makes for good read.

I literally read 55% of this book and got a torture scene where the protagonist is also molested and I was done. Sorry, my first DNF of 2022.

The descriptions are dense, the main character Isabeau isn’t particularly likeable, but I did have a soft spot for Meghan. Odd pace. Just not my cup of tea but may be for others.

Yet another entry into the canon of heroes cannot be complete until they are violently raped. Women aren't raped because they are "bonny." They are raped because they are women. No thank you.

THIS WAS AMAZING!!! Any book that pulls me out of an intense reading slump deserves all the stars ✨

Firstly - what is not to love about vegetarian witches living peacefully with nature in a secluded treehouse! (My ultimate dream!) AND these witches communicate with animals (including dragons!)

Secondly - it takes real talent to get me hooked on each storyline. At first whenever a chapter swapped POV I was like nooo I need to know what happens! Then I would start reading that chapter/POV and be like ahhh now I don’t want to leave this character/storyline. There is just so much entertainment and story building ALL THE TIME. Lots of awesome characters too with their own interesting backgrounds and interconnections.

Thirdly - I flew through it, despite it being over 500 pages. The writing was so fluid and perfect that I didn’t even realise I was reading - I was there, in the pages!

I was really worried going into this book that I wouldn’t like the different way of talking (Scottish?) but I easily got used to it and had a fun time reading it out loud to my mum at times. E.g: “Ye be an auld(old)-fashioned one, that be for sure! All the lasses cut their hair short now, ye ken(you know), like the Ensorcellor. I canna(cannot) get used to it”. I definitely recommend using the glossary at the back of the book along the way to avoid confusion about some of the terms.

I am so excited to continue the series and the authors’ other works, but I am also a lot more interested in explorer older works by female authors as I’m not quite clicking with some of the more recent fantasies to hit bookstores.

This was actually my third time reading this. I read it once years ago when I first bought it randomly. I always meant to read the rest of the series but never picked it up. Then about two years ago I read it again this time intending to read the rest of the series and even collected the rest of the books in anticipation (thank you paperbackswap.com).

Now two years later I have resolved myself to finish the series.

I've enjoyed this book with each reading. The world is interesting and the characters engaging. My one main quibble is I want a damn map. It is difficult to figure out where everyone is without one.

Oh my god. Terrible. The protagonist was obnoxious as hell and I could not muster up any sympathy for her.

To the discard pile you go. The fake accent pretty much killed my desire to read this tale, and it felt a bit clunky, a bit old-fashioned to me. Not a bad book as such, but not the right fit for me fantasy-wise.

Some good, solid, women-forward fantasy. Read it when I was younger, fun to revisit.
