I'm honestly a bit confused about how I feel on this one. I picked it up largely because the author's first name is spelled exactly like my middle name (which I had never seen before). I knew I was in for a solid level of cheesiness, and had zero expectations of a literary masterpiece, to a degree even further leveled down from my usual rom coms - still, along for the ride, reading it predominantly in the bathroom in an effort to replace mindless social media scrolling.
The part that confuses me is whether I enjoyed the book - the characters were a little annoying, but that, along with the bumpiness of the romance and the fact that the character's emotions didn't make total sense, felt oddly realistic. The lines weren't swoony or moving, the comebacks weren't strong or biting, and the story didn't leave me feeling that tug of wanting more - and yet I felt like much of the book could have actually happened in real life. Still, that's not what I'm looking for in my escapist romantic chick lit. So *shrug*.
