I'm writing this review after reading all the one- and two-star reviews for this series, which now that I think about it wasn't the smartest decision? If this doesn't sound like a 5-star review, that's part of the reason, the other part is that I'm way too objective to not notice flaws in this books.
THINGS I LOVED:
- This is a more Keefe-centered book. We're finally realising Fitz needs to go, are we? Noticed that from the moment Keefe was introduced. I own a weird pink-red-orange coloured highlighter that represents all Fitz's toxic comments, and there're two chapters in particular completely riddled with pink-red-orange due to his messed-up comments about matchmaking. (There are just as many blue highlights to show when Keefe says something that proves he is the greenest of green flags. (Well, maybe not the greenest, but certainly up there.)) I am not ashamed to admit that the amount of Sokeefe in each book plays a large part in all my ratings.
- The climax. It gets me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. The way Sophie and Keefe talk telepathically is SO CUTE. But, c'mon, you're telling me Sophie still didn't see how Keefe liked her? Bro was literally like 'I'm really glad I met you' and Sophie's reaction was, 'That's nice. Keefe is such a good friend.'
Also: How on Earth did Sophie manage to RUN and TELEPORT while CARRYING AN UNCONSCIOUS KEEFE? She deserves a medal or something for that performance.
- Ro, Bronte, and Sandor. Nothing more needs to be said.
- Dexiana for the win.
- I hate the Council, but seeing them interact is great.
- The Forbidden Cities will always make the books interesting. But c'mon, no need to dis Digestives.
- The E.L. Fudges scene... that's something else.
- Finally getting a parent reveal. I liked this because I don't care about her parents, so it was like 'finally. One down, and Sophie's no longer investigating'. I seriously hope we don't get a father investigation and his identity is revealed in an offhand sort of way.
- The cliffhanger wasn't smack bang in the middle of a climax scene, and we got something of a resolution before the not-so-irritating cliffhanger.
- Fitz made me so mad, and although I hate him, this added more ✨emotion✨ to the book.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE/HATED:
- Fitz.
- OK but in all seriousness, Wonderboy almost murdering his brother was never addressed. Like, are you kidding me? Usually I hate comparing professionally edited books to my unpublished trash, but if one of MY characters nearly murdered their brother, I feel like there would be at least one conversation about it, and definitely some questioning of morals. You're telling me everyone just forgot Fitz had even done that and didn't for a moment question his morals? REALLY?
- Team Valiant. It had lots of potential but completely fell flat. It wasn't even mentioned in Stellarlune, yet it got like 100 pages just infodumping about the whatever-that-building-was-called, the Prime Sources, and all that. We literally got a page devoted to what everyone's WEARING.
- The conflict with the dwarves felt really poorly done.
- Reusing plot points like the ability reset and the friend joining the Neverseen. The ability reset in particular. Sophie's ability were working fine, apparently they could just work 'better'.
- The matchmaking. Fitz should seriously go fall into a volcano or something because I am so done with his stupid toxic comments. Heh. Fitz falling into a volcano would be funny.
- I don't mean to sound whiny, but Linh and Marella were almost completely left out. I love Marella so this was incredibly disappointing.

Legacy is the 8th book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities books. Without spoilers of this book or the whole series, this book was frustrating, but also better in some ways. It is a book of strained relationships (dating, biological, political, etc). It is funny that the school keeps getting put in hold, for a kids book. Sophie seems to be figuring out more realistic actions, but the reset was annoying and felt forced.
I was getting kind of worried that this series was losing my interest after Flashback (which I did not like that book), but this was again a 5/5! More characters besides Sophie, Keefe and Fitz got time to shine (thank god) and the plot was very intriguing too (they don’t spend half of the book in one place in this one, fortunately).
I’m very excited to know what Keefe’s new ability will be, and to get to know more about Glimmer!
Excited to see where this series is going :)
