What an interesting small book! I had some difficulty with the creative spelling, but this story about a Fox learning about humans was a lovely, fascinating read.

Fox 8 is a short, whimsical story that you could finish on a morning train ride commute. It begins as a charming tale about a fox who learns human speech and writing and develops a curiosity towards humans and their lifestyles. I won’t say more since the story is so short, but it’s equally heartwarming and heart-wrenching. I was impressed with how Saunders composed this and was aching to try more of his work the moment I finished this (already started Lincoln in the Bardo). Of course, Fox 8 wouldn’t be the magic that it is without the adorable illustrations by Chelsea Cardinal
