It's a trauma porn. It was so disappointing. There was no real humanizing experience 2 of the characters went through except that they were marginalized, poor, AND victims. Like give them some strength, and pride, and get into THEIR heads. Meanwhile the privileged main character gets to be a bit of a hero in the end, to deal with his guilt for being a dick. It's like the white guilt/ white savior trope in other books and movies except no one is white.

Hosseini never fails to make me bawl my eyes out. this was a wonderful read with all its twists. I loved the book and everything about the story.
