All of the Blackstone Rangers are great guys but Krieger is a special mix of gruff and sweet. Krieger makes so many mistakes but his heart is always in the right spot. Dutchy doesn't know what to do about her feelings for Krieger and while her heart wants to forgive him her animal has other ideas. This story is sweet and complex and very emotional. I love the way the story overlaps with Anders' book and that we finally find out J.D.'s animal (but what does J.D. stand for?) I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I really enjoyed this story! It was a fantastic story and I loved finally getting Dutchy's story. We have seen her starting with the Blackstone Dragon series and now into this one. This can be read as a standalone story though it is connected to the rest of the books in the series as we see both characters in the previous ones. If you have read the series then you will get some added enjoyment but it is not needed. I loved the action and development throughout the story. Krieger has been dealing with a lot of guilt and shame and has shut himself away from the world mostly. He hasn't dealt or healed with what happened when he was deployed. He finally does after meeting Dutchy and knowing that she is his mate but he does not explain everything to her when he decides that he needs to fix himself prior to being with her and it breaks something between them and in her that causes a huge issue. Krieger now has to work on repairing that and building trust with Dutchy. I really enjoyed this story and I am excited for what comes next.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is yet another hit in the Blackstone Ranger series. This one is a lot angstier than the previous instalments, but despite the difference in tone, I gobbled it up in one sitting.
John Krieger has a tragic past, and he’s clearly dealing with PTSD and, as a result, he’s unable to fully control his bear. To cope, he’s isolated himself in the mountains, focusing on patrolling the border and ensuring that hikers and shifters stay safe. He doesn’t expect that he has a mate, and when he meets her, he knows it’s in her best interest for him to push her away.
Dutchy designs wedding dresses for a living, so she’s used to being surrounded by shifters and their mates and observing their happy ever afters from the sidelines. She’s ecstatic when she meets her mate--but devastated when she finds out that he has no intention of being her happy ever after.
This book has all the feels, and I was gripping tight on the handlebars during the roller coaster ride of emotions John and Duchy put me through. Another solid instalment in this series!

I hate when romance books rely on lack of communication or miscommunication to keep the story going. Also very much dislike when the 2 MCs have sex within the first 20 minutes.
