Lore is simply an incredible fantasy book.

In this book, there is something called the Agon. It takes place every seven years. During the Agon, nine Greek gods become mortal for seven days. Hunters from different ancestral houses hunt them in hopes of killing one and claiming their power and immortality. Lore has tried to escape this cycle, but from the beginning of the book she is drawn back in when her childhood friend, Castor, shows up after she believed him to be dead.

The plot is incredibly complex and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I love how Greek mythology was tied into the very modern setting of Manhattan. It was such a fresh take on Greek mythos. There's a huge plot twist at the end that I personally wasn't expecting when I first read this book. It literally made my jaw drop. Lore is also so brutal and the writing feels cut-throat as well. Both made the atmosphere of this book dark and kind of mysterious. I really like Greek mythology when told in an adult format, and this did not disappoint in that area.

Anger, grief, power, and misogyny are all woven into this story. Lore is a well rounded protagonist who felt a bit morally-gray at times, but overall had you feeling for her throughout the entire book. Misogyny is a big part of this story too, and I think the way the book ended really solidified the themes of sexism from the book.

One critique I saw a few people give this book, and one that I agree with, was that dual perspectives really could've made this book even better. Although I loved Lore as a character, many parts of the story could've meshed better together if we had Castor's POV, for instance.

If you wanna action-packed, adult fantasy story with gore and a modern touch to it, this is for you.

Great YA book, strong characters and plot. Nice easy read with good vibes, ending disappointed me personally 🤷🏻‍♀️

i had some difficulties at the beginning about the plot but finally, i really really liked this book ! one of the best thing is that it was really addictive ! i loved every characters, they were all well-written and not too “cliché”. Lore wasn’t too annoying and her motivations were interesting and we’re making sense. Cas was cute, but i loved Van!!!! underrated character which deserved more moments. BTW his kiss scene was a bit ruined like it happened in a messy way :/
About Athena, i truly loved her, she was so well written, her motivations, personality, values and everything.
We barely see the plot twist so i also kinda liked it like it was surprising but finally not so much
maybe the end was a bit too pushed, hurry ? we maybe needed less descriptions of the fights (that weren’t well written enough in my pov) and more about the end, what it involved and what consequences on characters it had.

I still recommend this book for people who like mythology, fantasy, dystopia but mixed with modern world!
BTW *here we have a childhood to -soft enemies- to lovers!!!!

The idea of this book was what really reeled me in - Greek mythology inspired urban fantasy?! Yes pls!

The story was good and the idea of the story was good but for me it was just a bit bland in places. It’s a standalone so I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece and it was good for what it was but I also felt it was a bit to drawn out making it a 550 page book which I didn’t feel it needed to be. Still I got the enjoyment out of it that I wanted 🥰

Fav Quote: “You would know all about that” Caster said, “living so bravely with half a brain. Don’t worry, no one has noticed that you still haven’t mastered the first year sword skills. We’re all pulling for you, though”

Fav Character: Evander (Van)

3.5 Me ha gustado pero tampoco me ha vuelto loca. Es una buena historia y tal, pero no terminé de conectar con los personajes y creo que se le podría haber sacado más a la historia, además había partes que parecían un poco convenientemente hechas. Bastante entretenido.
