i really fucked with this. the first 100 pages are my least favorite, but once it gets going it’s a really smooth and thrilling read. i loved lore as a character and this book earnestly got me with a couple twists i really didn’t see coming.

okay, so i think this book suffered the most from Just Being Thrown in - overall, i really fucked with both the characters and the plot. it was twisty as hell without feeling inorganic

This book was surprisingly vividly written and incredibly violent. The pacing was a bit weird and awkward at times, but the revelations felt like they came out at the right time in the story. Castor is probably one of my favorite book love interests, even if Lore isn’t my favorite main character. The ending left a lot open ended but it’s a good ending because it lets the reader fill in the gaps or use their imagination to create what comes next. It’s an excellent Greek myth story and I loved the subtle details that tie back to the old myths. The climax, as usual, as the best part of the book.

I have no idea how to rate this book because on the one hand its super dense and took me 5 months to get through. The way that it's written is so convoluted that it's not even enjoyable. I felt that it really should have dropped the YA fiction approach and gone full on into the details of the very complex emotional topics it approached. Instead, what you get is 300 pages of edging before anything remotely captivating happens. On the other hand, the characters were twisted but really enjoyable and the end made it worth the trouble so I guess? If you like New York and Mythology it's probably for you. I especially enjoyed the quotes "Power does not transform you [...] it only reveals you" and "But you were like this invisible force to me, even then. You were a safe place to hide my hopes." So cute.
