The characters were so utterly i likeable that I quit 82 pages into the book. Reading shouldn’t feel like a chore.

Expected a lot more from this considering it was adapted to film. Writing style was incredibly simplistic.

I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads contest.

I really enjoyed this book. It had a Jane Austin feel to it while reading very contemporary. It was a lot of fun and I shall have to see the film when it comes out.

This is the rare case where I think watching the movie (which I loved!) before reading is the better move. The movie casting is so perfect - Zawe Ashton as Julia Thistlewaite stole the show and made an annoying book character warm and funny!

Ok writing, mostly fluff

I watched the movie before starting this book and was confused by it because it was really noticably lacking the compelling character development and motivations (and charm) I've really enjoyed in the other Suzanne Allain novels I've read. So I went into this book skeptically, prepared for it to be noticeably worse than the other books of hers I loved. I do think I enjoyed this significantly less because I knew what was going to happen for the most part, but I also think even if I hadn't seen the movie, it would still be my least favorite Suzanne Allain book I've read so far. I just didn't find anyone as likable as characters in the others I've read (though I did find both Selina and Malcolm much more likable in the book than in the film).
