A love story filled with schemes and trickery. It was a quick read so it’s perfect to start and finish in one sitting.
The Hero was supremely haughty and unlikeable and did not do enough to redeem his character. The only reason i gave this two stars is Mr. Malcolm’s mother was hysterical

While I usually enjoy any sort of regency romance or pride and prejudice adjacent retelling, I was disappointed in Mr. Malcom’s List. The characters were forgettable, and the amount of lies they told and their dull, rote personality traits them unlikeable. There was also unfortunately little chemistry between the main characters. Overall, a disappointing read
I was instantly captivated by the plot of this book as it read like an Austen novel. A prideful man, Mr.Malcolm has a list of qualifications he wants for a wife. He has upset Julia who wished to marry him, but did not live up to his list. When she finds out about the list, she invents a scheme to get him back for his arrogance and enlists the help of Selina. Julia plans to present Selina as the perfect match for Mr.Malcolm, meeting all the qualifications on his list and then have her refuse to marry him. Of corse Selina actually falls in love with Mr.Malcolm and does not want to refuse him.
The story started out strong, but became too predictable by the end. The characters were very one dimensional. By the end of the book I was rolling my eyes. I think the story had potential, but just didn’t finish strong. All the plotting and scheming at the end was overdone. I just wish the characters had been a bit more interesting.

This was a fresh, Austen-esque take that reads like a witty rom-com. A quick read with vivid characters, intrigues, and settings. I had a lot of fun escaping into this one.
Da ich sehr gerne historische Liebesromane lese und ich letzter Zeit auch Bridgerton verschlungen habe, musste ich Mr. Malcoms Liste einfach auch lesen. Der Klappentext klang sehr interessant und ich war gespannt darauf was mich erwartet. Da ich auch mitbekommen habe, dass dieses Buch verfilmt werden soll waren meine Erwartungen recht hoch. Leider wurde mir nach ca. 70 Seiten klar, dass diese nicht erfüllt werden… Es hat schon mit dem Schreibstil von Suzanne Allain angefangen. Ich habe sodass Gefühl, dass die Autorin nicht weiß was sie will. Mal ist der Schreibstil in historischem Stil gehalten, mal habe ich das Gefühle eher einen modernen Stil zu lesen. Dadurch habe ich einfach keinen Lesefluss gefunden. Auch die Perspektivenwechsel sind nicht gekennzeichnet und ich wusste manchmal nicht bei wem ich den gerade bin. War auf Dauer auch recht nervig. Nach ca. 70 Seiten habe ich es mehr oder weniger abgebrochen bzw. noch ein bisschen Quergelesen und beschlossen, dass ich absolut nichts verpasst habe.
Kommen wir zu den Charakteren. Leider konnte es keiner von ihnen etwas an meiner Meinung ändern, eher war das Gegenteil der Fall. Die Charaktere waren nicht ausgearbeitet, sie blieben blass und hatten keine Tiefe. Julia war ein egoistisches und intrigantes Biest, die einfach null Entwicklung hat und ich hätte sie am liebsten gegen die Wand geklatscht. Selina, die weibliche Hauptprotagonistin, war eigentlich echt nett und süß. Doch sie war auch so naiv und hat nicht wirklich Rückgrat gezeigt. Von Mr. Malcom will ich eigentlich gar nicht erst anfangen… Ein absolut arroganter Kerl, den man einfach nicht mögen kann. Ganz ehrlich, Selina hat echt was besseres verdient. Allein das Verhalten am Ende hat mich einfach nur den Kopf schütteln lassen.
„Mr. Malcoms Liste“ war für mich leider ein absoluter Flop und ich kann nicht wirklich nachvollziehen, wie man daraus einen tollen Film/Serie machen will. Von mir gibt es keine Leseempfehlung.

I thought this was really cute. I started the audiobook while driving from Lake Geneva to Mom's house for dinner as Coops schmoozed with clients. I wrapped it up today in the hotel room as my work day closed, over a killer avocado cucumber roll and sweet potato roll at this cute Thai place downtown for dinner, and while I had the resort gym to myself. It was the perfect little palette refresh I was looking for during a couple days away on a quasi-adventure.
2.5 not much new here and almost no tension.
