A somewhat slapstick comedy of errors and backfired deceitful pranks. Funny, but some of the language is probably too modern for the Regency era.
i was drawn to this book after seeing the trailer for its film adaption, but was slightly let down. it was a cute, quick regency era romance, but suffered from a lot of cliches; characters fell for each other at first sight, etc. i'm definitely still interested in watching the movie, but wasn't crazy about the book.
4.5 - I loved this book but it didn’t leave much of a lasting impression. Pride and prejudice meets Bridgerton

I originally checked this book out because I saw the movie on Netflix and thought it must be a good book. It was it as good as I expected it to be. The premise promised in the descriptions doesn’t feel like it actually comes to fruition. There’s not really any chemistry between the main characters, and I couldn’t really explain why they like each other. Julia Thistlewaite is an inane character and she just didn’t really work for me. Too many characters I didn’t really care about with caricatured that weren’t fun enough to draw me in and nonsensical enough to annoy me.
last quarter of the book fell short, overall fell short :-(
i really thought this was gonna be some sort of feminist take and it had a lot of potential to be a jane austen novel with the commentary on steroids but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. dear reader, i… wish there wasn’t any marrying once again
also i would’ve married henry ossory on the spot js

I like romance novels because their momentum is so fast! this one has non-stop banter, non-stop hijinks - so many misunderstandings! I think it'll translate really well into a movie, and I'm excited to see it once it does :-)
Really disappointing!
This felt like a bunch of Regency romances were fed into a computer and then the computer was instructed to write a novel based on them. There was no heart or soul, just a quick, bland story.
