Selina and Jeremy genuinely have hilarious banter, and the emotional turmoil they endured due to all the games, lies, and miscommunication was very palpable. Their love story truly kept me on edge and kept this story interesting.
While I felt the very real emotions of our main characters, I felt pulled away by some of the unnecessary side characters and scenes that would play out far better on a screen than how it's written. Everything felt like emotional whiplash in these side moments. I cannot get over how ridiculous some of the drama plays out, and above all, Julia's continued immaturity and pettiness. These farfetched moments were too absurd for me to feel neutral about this story-- such as when Henry is enlightened that he has caught feelings for Julia with just one milkmaid masquerade outfit; or when Julia suddenly becomes the most supportive friend to Selina once she completes her revenge plot when she has been nothing but vain and self-centered the entire 95% of the story; or the suggestion of a double wedding . Overall, it was a nice cozy read with lots of LOL moments, but not the best story in my opinion and not enough characters I cared for in the end.

Ironically, I liked the movie adaptation way better. Julia was too insufferable in the book, as opposed to comically annoying in the movie. I didn't like how long the ending was, they drew it out for longer than it should have been, imo. Still a cute little read, but I wouldn't come back to it the way I would with the movie.
It was cute...I liked the banter. Looking forward to the film adaptation.
*DNF on pg. 135
Incredibly boring and formulaic, though I do plan to watch the movie, the book is predictable and doesn’t quite deliver that regency magic with the more modern take on language and two dimensional characters.
Second attempt
