I saw the movie when it came out and LOVED it. This book was definitely a little disappointing compared. The movie actually fleshed out some of the characters and moments! This book def had potential but it’s just SO short. I read it in about 2 and a half hours.
I really liked the premise and the characters were fun, but I think the movie just did a better job making all the side characters shine.
I also felt it was weird the perspective would change out of no where. But overall it’s a fun lil historical fiction book and very “John Tucker must die” meets “Bridgerton”

one of those rare instances where the movie is leaps and bounds better than the book

Wish you could give half stars cause this was like a 2.5 for me. It’s a very fast read and doesn’t have a lot of substance but it did keep me engaged. I reread it today since I’m seeing the movie tomorrow. Hopefully the plot of the film is more developed than the book because it’s very lacking. Stories like this tend to be extremely predictable but part of what makes it fun is fully developed characters and a subplot. This had neither. Or I guess you could consider Henry and Julia the subplot but that pretty much all happened within one chapter. I remembered that Julia was immature and bratty but I did not remember how much, my God I could not stand her. Also hate how fast they resolved everything with her. It’s not realistic she’d be forgiven that quickly.
