It’s more like a 3.5. I liked it but had my issues with it ❤️

A delightfully fun read. A sweet period piece romance that turns into a comedy of manners. It doesn’t need any sequels, but I’d certainly read them if they existed.
I can’t wait to watch the movie now.

Fun story I would rate higher if there was not so many moments or phrases used/referenced to pride and prejudice.

It was fine.

I didn’t particularly like anyone (except Henry who seemed like a dream but maybe that was just by comparison) or understand why anyone liked anyone else. Mr. Malcolm is horrible. Julia is awful and her motivation for her weird plan was very silly. I felt sorry for Cassie, people were so so mean to him and about him.

A scheme is not much of a scheme if only one person is passively participating. There isn’t much character development. Everyone is playing a game that actually no one has agreed to play.

I’d half-hoped that something more salacious had happened at the opera to justify this long con. Maybe even that he was in fact in love with Julia or that he was what everyone said he was. More stories about other women he jilted, something?

It would work well as a movie because it reads like it was meant to be adapted and I’m sure I’ll enjoy seeing it.

No steam, just some kisses.

A pretty straightforward story with lots of humor and back and forth high road/low road arguments. Very fun. It did not play the normal tropes as I expected which greatly added to the charm. Made it a four star instead of a three.

Cute, fun, distracting, predictable

A fun, silly read. Would recommend for a flight or by the pool or for a quick weekend read.
