I’m sure I learned it before but forgot: more than 9 million soldiers died in WW1. Wow. This tale gives a nice overview of the players (i.e., countries) and how it all went down.

First read in 2016- interesting and spells out WWI way better than I had seen before.

Re-read in 2022- still a solid graphic nonfiction about WWI. Keeping all the battles straight was still a little hard but having the countries be animals made it easier than reading a textbook.

Made learning history kinda fun (besides all the deaths and stuff).

I highly recommend this book. I learned so much about WWI and feel like I finally grasp some of what was going on. The moments of silliness are probably great for young readers, and didn't detract from the meat of things for me.

This is my new go-to book for someone who wants to learn the general happenings of World War I in under 3 hours. I love the art. The narrators took a little getting used to, but they weren't so bad. Probably a good book for older kids. It's a graphic novel. I would read more of Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales in the future.
