Short on story, long on spice. Sorta a Disney retelling of Jasmine & Jafar. The only thing that saved the book is, incredibly enough, the footnotes. Robert wrote this years ago and had commented throughout on how she changed or stayed the same about actions within the story. The footnotes are interesting and witty at times, but the book is pedestrian. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Couldn't get into the underworld plot, was quite repetitive and spice took precedence over plot.

I never thought that this could work, but I read another book by this author and loved it, so gave this one a chance. Holy fuck! I regret nothing, this was just…. Fuck… read it, just… read it. I did the audiobook and I think it made it even better! Definitely reading the next one!
