Wow! This was a read and a half. Set across several countries in 1936 and 1937, this is partly a coming of age story and partly a tale of a highly dysfunctional family. Through the story, my feelings about the key characters switched and changed as I loved them and then hated them in equal parts. As I picked this book up in a #StreetLibrary book swap, I didn't know what I had picked up. Now, I find myself needing to find the earlier bookings in this series (and to keep my eye out for future tales).
