Beautiful and tender. Lots of description but it helps set the mood and not at all tedious. It made me realise a lot about human nature. How lonely people constantly search for others and they fail, and finally when they think someone gets it – even in the face of evidence that they don't – they hold onto it like a lifeline. But it's hard to stop projecting ideals on mysterious strangers.

Those last few chapters were so bittersweet. What a realist ending. I cannot believe she wrote this in her twenties and this was her first book ever. Absolutely phenomenal.

This book is hopeful and melancholy at the same time. It's beautiful and tragic. And at times very relatable when it comes to what it means to be a human and how important it is to feel understood, even by just one person, so it's not so lonely.
