The Story of O is considered one of the books that you should read if you are interested in the history of kink and erotica. If you are someone interested in seeing the depths of femme submissive fantasy, this is definitely a book to add to your reading list. Without delving into spoilers, the Story of O does a great job putting you into the headspace of a femme submissive who lets herself be used by men for the duration of the book. There is some description of the sexual acts, but there's more emphasis on O's thoughts and headspace than the acts themselves.

Because of the nature of the book, the degradation experienced by O can be considered emotional abuse since she does not actively consent to it.
