just rename the book to libra man

Technically 0 stars. DNF at 51%. I was thinking about stopping and then I heard it just gets so much worse. Worse meaning how disturbing and messed up (trying to keep this clean). I realize psycho is in the name but a few trigger warnings would be nice. Here are some (probably not all): torture/mutilation (alive persons and corpse), animal abuse/torture/death, rape, emotional abuse, underage prostitution, racism, drugs, LGBTQ+ hate speech. I expected some but not to this degree. Dear lord. Too much for me.

Lettura difficile, scene cruente e fin troppo creative. Bella parodia che sfocia nella confusione più totale. Mi piace.

horrifying! a masterful satire. i’m actually incredibly glad that the movie is much more tame than the book because i don’t think i could handle seeing some of these scenes play out on film

Misogyny, we has it! Bret Easton Ellis clearly did not receive a sufficient number of hugs from his mother and was turned down when he asked out that girl he liked. Graphic sexual violence is a lazy, shitty way to show that a character is an asshole, and Ellis goes flying over the line between portraying it for the sake of the narrative and portraying it for its own sake.

And it's not even interesting. The novel falls into the basic trap of a meditation on the banal pointlessness of modern life, the story itself is banal and pointless. Maybe the book was innovative at the time, but I understood that empty materialism consumes itself on page 2. The remaining 453 pages were superfluous. Even the murders were boring. Ellis comes across like the Insane Clown Posse, so desperate to shock and appall that the audience can only shrug and yawn.

Literary juggaloes are a funny image, though.
