You might hate it or love it but you’ll definitely talk about it. But I wonder what was all hype about? Even after I finished. Overall reaction to it: meh.:/
Plot
Very simple. Patrick is a sociopath murdering people just because. I couldn’t understand his reasoning. Pretty boring the first 70% until he’s on a date with Jeanette and becomes desilusional. His thoughts are scrambled all over the place. He also calls his friend and confess. He doesn’t believe him. Go figure. Pure gore and almost no psychological background.
Questions
Why did he always get away with it? The police tried to catch him only once when he killed a bum. But how many people did he kill?
Why people never took him seriously? Sometimes he confessed of murdering almost like a hobby.
Does this have a second book?
Is the movie better than the book?

A difficult read but an excellent satire. I will probably never read this book again but the author creates such a controlled narrative where descriptions of food, fashion, and popular music are given equal if not more weight than graphic depictions of torture while conveying the incredible void inside the main character and the vapidity of his peers. It's an incredibly empty novel in terms of its supporting characters but overlaid throughout is incessant repeated chatter about inane details Patrick sees and thinks while in a coke fueled disintegration of self.
I’m really not sure how to rate, whilst it has good social commentary i think there is an argument that the book excessively makes female readers uncomfortable. idk i liked when the american went phyco

I don’t know that I can add anything significant to what has already been said about this book. It lives up to its acclaim. It’s completely twisted. It’s absolutely brilliant. I happen to be a big fan of ‘twisted’ so I enjoyed it, even if some of it was...difficult. Reading this for the first time in 2020, with Donald Trump as the American president, added some additional darkness to the story that couldn’t have been predicted when it first came out. Masterful writing.
