The premise of this manga is simple but interesting, definitely has me curious as to what is going to happen next. Art is great - the designs of each character totally make them feel distinctive. Also, as other reviews have mentioned: unhinged.

I love the art I think it’s hauntingly beautiful— now Shinpei?? He’s freaked out to the max, delusional and insane.
I’m interested to see how this goes. I was looking for manga that was similar to Yakuza Fiancé (which I ADORE), and people seem to love this manga.

I didn't expect much going in but I couldn't stop reading it until I got caught up (Ch 64). I can see why the story isn't for everyone since it is a more gory josei manga. Don't get me wrong Shinpei is crazy af, but I really do enjoy seeing how the dynamic between Satoko and him. The art style is so cute and I love the more tragicomedy gap moe aspects of it. However I don't think the manga will end with a happy ending and depending on how it continues I could change my mind a lot later ;-;
I don't read a lot of romances but this was surprisingly good! Sometimes I just love a crazy hoe especially when there the embodiment of the :3c emoticon

Noblewoman Satoko wants to bring honor to her family, especially her father, before her fatal heart condition destroys her. The best way she can do that is to enter into a prosperous marriage. But, before her arrangements can be finalized, she is kidnapped and threatened most heinously by her captors. A crazed assassin threatens to kill any man who lays hand on her, so Satoko barters with the only valuable thing she has -- her family name. She promises to marry the assassin if he delivers her from the clutches of her captors and pretends to be madly in love with the deranged man. Both seem determined to call the other on the bluff -- one in order to kill, the other in order to survive.

This story was really compelling and enjoyable, particularly the use of the trope of the mentally unstable love interest (possibly "kichidere" or even "yandere"). The mental gymnastics and sparring that went back and forth between Satoko and Shinpei was an entertaining game of chicken that will either aggravate readers or have them giggling. There is one moment of attempted sexual assault when Satoko's captors threaten her before Shinpei steps in. Between that an some of the tėte-a-tėte, this might be better for older romance readers.

Firefly Wedding by Oreco Tachibana is a period fiction dark romance manga set in Meiji era Japan. Satoko is a young woman of the aristocracy, beloved by her father, and privileged with beauty and wealth. Her dream is to do her family proud by marrying well, but she is hampered by her congenital heart condition and her antagonistic relationship with her step-mother and step-sister. When Satoko is unexpectedly kidnapped, her only hope lies with the yandere assassin, Goto Shinpei, who agrees to rescue her...if she marries him.
Readers looking for lighthearted egalitarian romance will not find it here. This story is for fans of action/fight scenes who don't mind if things get a bit bloody. As the saying goes, "We're all mad here." That said, trigger warnings aside, this story is easy to follow and solidly engaging. Though sheltered, Satoko does her best to hold her own with Shinpei, and he (sort of) respects her boundaries--within the limits of his own character design. I am curious how their relationship will continue to develop in future volumes, especially if/when Satoko's family gets involved. This story may not be for everyone, but if it's within your genre, it's worth a shot. The art is pretty nice too, though rendered in a fairly standard style.
Readers may also enjoy: Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku by Yuji Kaku, Black Bird by Kanoko Sakurakoji, Phantom Tales of the Night by Matsuri, A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow, Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii by Asuka Konishi, Inuyasha by Rumiko Takahashi, and various retellings of the "Bluebeard" and "Beauty and the Beast" fairy tales.
