I think I’m glad I didn’t read it first since it wasn’t as easy to get into as ToG for me, but also it probably would’ve been nice to read the story in chronological order and I wouldn’t have been anticipating certain events happening.

I did a lot of research before starting the series to decide where I wanted to read this. I took the advice of reading it between Heir of Fire and Queen of shadows, as I was told it had the most emotional impact. NOOOOOO.
Read it first - it will make the emotions of the first two books sooooo much more. Not knowing the information from these novellas makes the first two kind of boring and hard to get into. This one provides soooo much context. Also, the series really picks up at the end of Heir of Fire and I hated having to stop once I went back.
With that being said, I did realllyyy enjoy this. It provided a lot of context, and made so much sense. But seriously, just read it first.

"I love you," he repeated, shaking her again."I have for years. And he hurt you and made me watch because he's always knon how I felt, too. But if I asked you to pick, you'd choose Arobynn, and I. Can't. Take. It." The only sounds were their breathing, an uneven beat against the rushing of the sewer river. "You're a damned idiot," she breathed. "You're a moron and an ass and a damned idiot." He looked like she had hit him. But she went on, and grasped both sides of his face, "Because I'd pick you". And then she kissed him.
