This is one of my favorite Sonnenblick books. I love how Alex has to face some of the challenges he creates for himself. It's good to see a book that has a character pay for mistakes and grow from them. I wish more teenagers had those opportunities.
One night, in a fit of rage at his father, 16-year-old Alex gets drunk and crashes his mother’s car. If that weren’t bad enough, as his punishment he has to work at a senior center to raise the money to pay for the lawn gnome he managed to decapitate. Alex gets paired with a grumpy senior with emphysema. Sol is quite a handful and Alex considers quitting. Instead, Alex begins to appreciate Sol, especially when he finds out that they both can learn a lot from each other.
This book manages to be sweet without becoming preachy. Alex’s relationship with Sol is quite endearing and hopefully will encourage other teens to reach out to seniors. The book also deals with the feelings that Alex has when his divorced parents start dating each other again, a hope that many children of divorce have but don’t always fully consider.

I'd probably have to give this book 3.5 stars. I wasn't sold on the book from the beginning but as I kept reading it grew on me. There were quite a few parts that I found myself actually laughing out loud. I like how it really showed maturity over time and the relationships that were built throughout. I breezed through this in about two hours.
A fairly generic plot, teen is punished for drunk driving and assigned to volunteer with a cranky old man and learns some lessons about life, actually turned out to be a pretty good read. The author's humor and style keep you interested even though the twist at the end is fairly obvious early on, I was very prepared to not enjoy the book just because of it's well worn plot, but was won over by the characters.
Such a wonderful story that I stayed up till 3:00am to read the whole book. I wish there was more
Almost peed myself during the first 10 pages and was crying by the end. Hilarious and toucing book to follow Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. I loved the first book and I thought this one would continue the story. Just so happens that this book's main character is a peer of the other book's main character. LOVE LOVE LOVED it.
I don’t know if I disliked it because we read it in English class or because it was boring and basic
I think both might be the answer
