This was a good read. I enjoyed the read and the HEA and liked the small mystery that was put into the story. I wish they would have fact checked a small part a little better but I fully recognize I’m probably the only one bothered that it was not accurate. This book gave me all I was looking for.

Tropes/Themes:
-MF contemporary romance
-Widowed heroine
-Police officer hero
-Small town
-Dual POV
-Standalone romance
CWs for murder, loss of a loved one, conversations about substance use
If you’re on the hunt for an emotional small town romance, this is definitely the book for you! This book follows Poppy, whose husband Jamie was tragically murdered at the start of the book, and Cole, the police officer who notified Poppy of her husband’s death. 5 years after Jamie’s passing, the two cross paths again while Poppy is working on Jamie’s “birthday list” (tasks/hobbies Jamie was hoping to complete before each birthday but never got the chance). Devney Perry did a great job of handling grief/loss while also showing how to move forward with grief and feel worthy/capable of love again. Perry has a really talent for writing small town charm and delightful side characters, there wasn’t a chat yet I didn’t love. I do think this was a little insta-lovey at the beginning, but Cole quickly won me over so I was able to look past it. I loved how smitten he was with Poppy and how he pretty much worshipped the ground she walked on. I liked how Cole was not trying to replace Jamie but was instead helping her to preserve and honor his memory. Cole is definitely top tier book boyfriend material.
The next book in the series is Finn & Molly’s romance (Poppy’s brother and best friend). I’m really intrigued to see them get their HEA but I’m not sure if I’ll pick it up since I have a real love/hate relationship with second chance romances. But we’ll see!

Ummm this was just really not for me. Very cringey writing and I didn’t connect or care about the characters and their relationship at all
It was giving Colleen Hoover
