Seriously - Heed these tags, this book is full of awful shit that is required for the story/setting. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic cult that requires sacrifice in the form of self flagellation and self torture. The author also shares her childhood before joining the cult, where many of the tags take place.

I almost DNF'ed at 28% - in the end I'm glad I struggled through it but the beginning was too much for me. Strange writing style, splatterpunk (for the sake of it), and not much direction. Right around the 1/3 mark, there's a noticeable shift in the writing style, storyline, etc that made this finishable. In the end, I wish there was much more to this from the start than gore and violence, because then the second half (and especially the end) leaves little time for exploring the issues.

My absolute favorite kind of speculative fiction. A half lucid main character who has been through it, a cult, an oasis in a fallen world, and bugs. 
Check all the trigger warning friends this is a dark one, but absolutely worth the read if post apocalyptic spec fic with some religious trauma is your jam.

I don’t usually enjoy books without dialogue, but The Unworthy read so smoothly that I barely even noticed. Lucia and the unnamed protagonist were lovable characters in the midst of a torturous, dark setting. 

This book is all at once dystopian and relevant; horror and romance. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was that I wished it was longer.

This was disturbing, and visceral, and incredible. I don’t even have language adequate enough. The ending was perfect, and despite the brutality, and the hopelessness at times, I wanted more. The almost magical realism was absolutely chef’s kiss. So glad I randomly picked this up.

I liked this book waaaaaay more than I liked The Vegetarian, which could be due to the subject matter or the translation or both. The writing is beautiful, the stylized narration is really immersion, and I found the story very engaging.
