heh. this was disappointing.
don't get me wrong—“cross bones” had its moments for sure. i'm not religious, for example, but the subject intrigues me quite a bit. so, despite the terrible timing, i was very much on board with learning more about this incredible story.
thing is, aside from a juicy discovery here and there, the rest of this book fell kind of flat for me. i don't even really know why, or how to explain my dissatisfaction with the story. i guess it's just a fact of life—something i have to accept for what it is, and move on. god knows there are enough books left in this series for kathy reichs to “redeem” herself. joking!
i missed claudel in this, even though i get why he wasn't involved. what i don't get, on the other hand, is not getting to see him ever again. i remember reading in an article that kathy reichs just stopped writing him in their stories at some point, simple as that, and i'm afraid i already reached and passed said point. sigh.

Amazing and wow some archaeology for a change, mystery and murder. Brilliant.

For me, Tempe Brennan felt oddly out of place when not in Quebec or the East Coast...

If you’re into reading about Jesus and theories, it’s a 5 ⭐️ book. I forced myself to finish it. Not even Ryan helped

My favourite Brennan-book to date (of 4, I think). Minimal violence, lots of historical musings, loosely based on news stories about the crypts of 'the Jesus-family'. With my favourite soap opera stars, Brennan and Ryan hard at work chasing bad guys.

I found this book abandoned at a bus stop on campus. The anthropological topic and implied broader implications kept the story interesting.

Not only is this a standard bones series book, I actually learned so much from this one, not being religious myself so I thoroughly enjoyed learning about different religions and their beliefs. Nice addition of a new character with Jake and also love reading the inspiration behind the book, fascinating that so much of the archaeological components are true! Another great read by Reichs
