Just...meh. I spent most of the book wondering what the point was and why I cared enough to keep reading. Not terrible, just boring. I did find the parts about Wahhabism very timely given the recent Paris attacks.
Overall, a bit of a grind. I've noticed a lot of this series is on-again, off-again in consistency. This is one of the off-again books.

I really enjoyed this book in the Bones series. It was fun to see Brennan take on a more archeological style mystery. I thought if was a fast paced and fun read. The only thing that was a bit off was the element of the story that tried to convince you that they found Jesus and that the impact would destroy religions world wide. It seemed a bit forced and wasn't very convincing. Overall though, I liked the setting, mystery, and the continuing relationship between reoccurring characters.

I haven't read any of the Temperence Brennan series before, but I have read other stuff by Kathy Reichs. I may have to pick the series up, though: it's got some good characters in it!
This particular story is about bones (lots of bones) purported to be Jesus by assorted people with an axe to grind. They are definitely old bones, they are from the right era, but before anything definitive can be found out, all the bones are removed from possible examination. It was helpful for me to have some clear knowledge of the period about which these bones came from, otherwise, I think this would have been a little on the confusing side.
Still, it was good to get to know Tempe, who seems to be a straight-shooter, and her 'boyfriend,' a Montreal cop. There are some really well-drawn characters in this book, and while the plot was rather unnecessarily complex, the action moving from Montreal to Israel kept the plot moving.
Yeah, I'll have to add her to the list. I'm never going to get everything read!

A Temperance Brennan book that occurs outside of the usual setting - this venture was set in Israel and the inclusion of a new culture and environment added intriguing complications to the typical forensic analysis procedure. Temperance is witty and fun, hearing from her perspective is always enjoyable.
Okay, I give up. The books are well written but not to my personal taste. I gave it a second attempt and they are just too close to the bone :-)

Bought this book as I have bought most of Temperance Brennan and not got round to reading most of them, however i picked this book up to read and just didn't fancy the storyline in this one, so I'm afraid I abandoned it.
This is not the Brennan that I know from the TV series. The only thing book-Bones has in common with her television counterpart is a shared name and occupation. I really enjoyed Cross Bones because it hit so many of my interests - it's set in both Montreal and Israel, so there's lots of new words to learn, and the plot involves a religious conspiracy tied to the ossuary of James. My first Brennan book, and it probably won't be my last.
I decided to read the Temperance Brennan books after watching the television show Bones. The two are similar but also very different, I enjoy both. Kathy Reichs has a very detailed but still interesting writing style. I do not understand all of the technical jargon but that does not detract from my reading enjoyment. Tempe and Ryan are great characters and my favorite parts of the books are when they are in a scene together especially if it is out in "the field".
