This book was disappointing. I never really got into it. I've read some Kathy Reichs books before and this one wasn't a good one. It goes into Da Vinci Code territory- theories of Jesus' having a family etc..It did take me a while to figure out who was behind everything, but that person ended up being a boring character too. Everything was wrapped up too neatly at the end. Which I don't like.
Cross Bones has two distinct parts and two distinct mysteries. The first part takes place in Montreal and centers around the execution style shooting of an antiquities dealer. The second part takes place in Israel and focuses on a 2000 year old corpse who is possibly related St. James Ossuary.
The Montreal bits I tore through. I loved the details of the mystery, the cultural clashes and Temperance's goofy friends (who are similar to but different Bones, the series). This half of the book entertained me enough that I still want to read the other book in the series that I have on my TBR shelf.
Had the book only taken place in Israel I would have tossed it aside unfinished. The pacing is off in this bit of the book. I know Temperance is supposed to have tons of experience traveling around the world doing her special field of forensics but she seemed so out of place in the field. Plus there were all these ridiculous action scenes that left me rolling my eyes.

I admit, when I first started reading this book I thought 'Oh please, not another author who tries to demolish the bible'. Now though I'm glad I didn't let the theme keep me from reading, because Cross Bones caught my full attention within the first five pages, like every of Kathy Reichs' books I've read up to now.
And it is much more interesting than Dan Brown (in my humble opinion).

I'm pretty fond of this series in general, but the religious influence on this plot made it particularly fascinating for me. Not being one who is overly devout, I was able to look at it as simply a tale and didn't get scandalized by the possibility that someone might have found the bones of Jesus. Definitely one of my favorites in this series.
As a happy side note, I'm starting to get more used to this narrator and am beginning to feel like she's more *Tempe* than I did in the beginning.

Kathy Reichs' ridiculous verb creations make me insane. "Chincocked" is NOT a word!
A paltry Da Vinci Code-esque mystery--Temperence Brennan may or may not have found the bones of Jesus in Quebec, and must travel to Israel to find out. I finished the audiobook mostly out of inertia.

It is ok as a story, but I did not like much the setup, and found it a bit confusing. It is another typical Tempe adventure, all in all: twists and turns, and danger just around the corner...
I liked the idea of this book. I have enjoyed the TV show. So I was looking forward to an enjoyable read. For a reason that i have not figured out, this did not happen. It took me a while to get through thee story. I got bored, I found myself thinking about other things (grocery lists etc). I think this other for what ever reason just does not reach me like she does so many other readers. The story takes place in a couple places but ends up in Israel. Whose bones are those and why have they been ignored is sort of the story line. Still don't understand why I did not enjoy this book.
