Aside from a few odd things dealing with a race (a scene in which Grisham describes black teenagers hanging out in the street as thugs and rappers), the story told her is excellent and exciting. Characters development as well as plot is strong.
This book had an interesting enough plot but it was just too much "litigation" for me. ha ha. get it? Anyways, it's about a man who ends up leaving his big fancy job to join a small town, low end office and how he ends up fitting in and saving it and so on... I mean, i know people enjoy these books because it was on the top 50 bestsellers but it's just not for me. It's so weird because I liked the Confession by Grisham but didn't like this book as much. I got through it okay but it was just too much court room business for me.
For some reason this was just blah for me. It covered well-trod Grisham story lines and I kept having to reassure myself that no, I hadn't actually read this one before, it just seemed like it.
Entertaining... Much more humorous than other Grisham novels I've read... A refreshing take on the 'legal thriller' genre, with some truly entertaining characters.
This is my first John Grisham book. It was very entertaining and I really liked it. I will be looking for more of his books to read.
The litigators centers around David Zinc, a young attorney who seemed made for the job. With a father who is a judge on a State Supreme Court and a Yale pedigree he works at a large, prestigious firm in Chicago. Despite his seeming to have it made, Zinc questions his path in life and changes it in rather comical fashion.
This is the story of an inexperienced lawyer who finds himself immersed in the cesspool that is filled with everything that most of us find distasteful about lawyers. He has to learn about being a lawyer while at the same time, very subtly, perhaps so subtly that he doesn't even know it, teach his more experienced brethren about decency.
I like this book a lot, but I am biased. I simply like John Grisham's non-pompous, unassuming approach to story telling. Once again, I missed Micheal Beck's narration, but based upon the setting, I understand the choice.
But back to the story. I liked his characters in The Litigators because they are people who are not easily recognizable as GOOD or BAD. This is how life really is, they are like a lot of people who you and I know. You can make a case for liking them and you can make a case for disliking them. David certainly vacillates between the two. Grisham also did a good job in the following way, I had an inkling about how things might end at about mid book, but he made me forget about my inkling. He got me so immersed in the events of the moment that I completely forgot about my inkling until it came in a moment of divine surprise.

Three and a half stars. Solid book, but a bit predictable. No massive gotcha like I've come to expect and look forward to in John Grisham novels
This is the first Grisham I've read in a loooong time. OMG, have all of his books been this good in the last 10+ years?!?! I LOVED it!! Couldn't put it down!! I didn't expect it to be so FUNNY! I think I laughed out loud a few times. Dragged a bit with the legal stuff in the middle, but things picked up nicely. One of those books I was sad to see end. Just loved it!!
I suppose not terrible but definitely not great. It kept me well enough entertained on the airplane though.
