Even though I have read and agree with some of the negative reviews of this book, I’m still giving this one 4 stars. I did end up listening to this on audio so I don’t know if I would have felt different if I had read the physical copy or not. There were definitely some boring bits, but I really liked the ending (despite it ending on a cliffhanger). I do plan to continue this series so🤞🏻 it gets better.

Okay I don’t even know 🤷‍♀️ I’m confused.
I both enjoyed and didn’t enjoy this
It was slow in parts but really good in others. There was a lot of info dumping and I’m still confused. I don’t really understand what everything is or how it works. And what are the faceless??? Like people or creatures or a mix I don’t even know?
I’d like to note I only dabble in fantasy and there is a lot so maybe I’m just not built for this 😭🤷‍♀️??
I do mainly like the characters tho, except why did tea not do anything when getting bullied, that did annoy me.
Did not see the plot twist coming and I do kind of need to know how that happens so I will read on as I think now we’re past the world building ( I hope) it should be easier ?? Maybe. I repeated ‘what?! No?’ Like 3 times because what do you mean KALEN!
Some of the descriptions in this are beautiful but I do feel like there are maybe too many descriptions sometimes or too long when not needed.
Also I enjoyed the tea/ Bard POV’s but they did confuse me in the beginning because I actually had no idea what was going on for like the first half.

I am gonna read the next though so we’ll see.

This isn't my typical genre, but since I was doing a buddy read involving magic I went into the book with an open mind. I enjoyed all the culture references within the story. I was not a fan of the romance plot, which was really behind the scenes but still not into it. I did not like how everyone belittled and assumed the main character could not use her powers well, when she literally was the strongest of them all. They kept trying to scold her and not let her grow into the person she's meant to be.

This book was...fine.
I listened to the audiobook and daily felt like I wished I knew where we were going and if there was a point to this book.

The writing was fine and the concept was fine but I just finished it and I'm still not really sure what the point was or If I feel like the plot actually went anywhere from the beginning to the end.

I don't feel like I got to know any of the characters and I don't feel like I have an attachment to anyone.
I kind of want to know what happens next but I'm not sure if I would read the next book to find out.

It's not that there was anything wrong with it, it just didn't do anything or go anywhere. I wonder if I would have felt differently if I had actually read it instead of listening, but the world will never know.
