I've noticed a lot of friends I recommend this book to either love it or have a hard time getting through it. It's not everyone's cup of tea. I personally devoured this entire series in one week because I loved it so much. The first book (and the series) isn't perfect, but I hold this trilogy close to my heart.
Audio while I prepped my house for sale. Detailed jump around story, cool magic system. Definitely hooked for the series.
i just wanted to see if maybe this was better than silver under nightfall since both of these books were on my tbr, but no, it was more promising tho, but i dnf when she literally stuttered, forgot her own name and almost fainted, cus prince looked at her once and she described him as the most beautiful man she's ever seen and i just can't with this
Initially, I found the format somewhat confusing because Tea tells her story to a young man in the present while the narrative flashes back to her past. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book overall and look forward to the next two installments in the series. I found the concept of a bone witch intriguing, and the powers they possess are quite fascinating. Additionally, the idea of the heartglass is interesting as well.

The build up to the end was so angsty and I loved it so much. This story was so incredibly unique and even those clothes seemed to be a whole separate character. I loved the little clues at the end of each chapter. Such a beautiful story and I can't wait to continue.

I just can't listen to this anymore. It might be good for some, but I'm not one of them.

I was expecting to read more about her being a necromancer magical wielder, but then it ended up being mostly about her being trained to essentially be a Geisha. I still don't fully understand why the two are the same even for the girls that aren't bone witches and are skilled in the other elements.
The thing is, it's really beautifully written, but I don't think anything really happened in the book? I think it's all a set-up for a second book, but the first book has to be interesting enough for there to be enough interest in the second. Chupeco has clearly given a lot of thought into the world that she's built, great, but the characters are pretty flat and I'm not sure what the overall conflict is.
