Decent enough start to a series. I am continuing with it.
I picked this up because I love Seanan McGuire's wayward children series, and I love Urban Fantasy.
I love reading about creatures.. so all the cryptids in this series are bound to be entertaining. And the Aeslin mice are everything. HAIL!

This was a fun and easy read. I am glad it was recommended to me. Verity is my type of crude but funny female protagonist. Dominic eventually won me over and I appreciate his character growth. I think I want to die for Istas. I definitely will be reading the other books as a good break from some of my longer, darker stories.

This book is fun and I liked the humor and characters and perhaps one day I’ll read more about this world in the future, but I think this book should and could have been like 50-70 pages shorter and nothing would have been lost.

This book was fun. It was very predictable, but not in a bad way. It is written well, is very entertaining, and has good world-building. The characters did change, but I'm not quite sure I'd call it "character growth", it was maybe just adapting to different needs for different scenarios without much reason for for the change.

Since this is the first in a series of (at least) twelve... I'll give the next book a shot and see if the characters to grow organically, or just get written differently for different scenes. But even if they don't, it wouldn't be a deal-breaker, because the story is enjoyable.

This book is a lot of fun. There's a huge array of supernatural creatures, a cryptozoologist who knows all about most of them, a dastardly menace, and sentient mice with a very complicated religious life. There are also a lot of really interesting side characters, which is something that I love in novels. I'm looking forward to getting to know this world a little more.

A fun and rollicking adventure set in New York starring a woman on a mission to protect non-human sentient and non-sentient supernatural creatures.
