Not as good as here Mira Grant or October Daye stuff at all.
Probably wont be continuing with this series

This was a delight to read. Humorous without it being a comedy and with characters so appealing that the slow-moving plot doesn’t detract from the story. Each chapter is headed by an amusing quote from one of the elder Price’s as well as a brilliantly descripted location.
Highlights definitely include the Aeslin Mice, a tribe of sentient mice who religiously celebrate every mundane thing Verity does and whose likeness act as the page breaks throughout the book.

HYSTERICAL. FUN. WHACKY. FAST-PACED. GREAT WORLD-BUILDING. TALKING MICE. SEXY DUDES IN BLACK DUSTERS. BALLROOM DANCING. SNAKE CULTS. DRAGONS. A STRIP CLUB FULL OF MONSTERS. LADIES WHO KNOW THE VALUE OF A GOOD MACHETE.

This was really entertaining - Seanan McGuire is an excellent writer, and I enjoyed the fun factor of this book. Can't wait for the next!

The worst thing about this book? It's the first in (hopefully a long) series and it just came out. Thus, I have to wait for the next one!
Please don't be put off by the idiotic cover art, this is a fabulously imaginative with a very likable heroine that is funny, tough and intelligent. The outfit depicted on the cover is her work uniform... More on that later. Anyways, the Price family are in the business of saving lives, both human and cryptid. Cryptids are creatures evolved apart from typical species and include things like dragons, bogeymen, hydras, lamia etc. Previously, the Price's were members of a supremely sanctimonious group called the Covenant who made it there business to righteously slaughter any and all cryptid they could find, whether or not they posed any kind of threat to anyone whatsoever. The Price family left (and are considered traitors) to study and protect cryptids and put the smack down on any human-eating ones. This is how you get Verity Price, our heroine, who can kill a man over a dozen different ways, runs across roofs to get to work where she's a server at a strip joint owned by a bogeyman, documents all the cryptids in their "natural" setting, has a definite dislike of bigots, and has a ballroom dancing alter ego.
Oh, and wait until you read about the mice!

3.5, unsure if I want to rate up or down.
I didn't love this book, but it was two reasons only ~ the "romance" and Dominic. If this book had been without both it would have been 5 stars. Yes, I'm a woman who just really really doesn't care for most romance in books. Romance bores me, it's like no writers can write without it and ugh. Just ugh.
So, take out the annoying asshole (Dominic) and the romance, and this book would have been pretty damn fantastic. It was good, just not great. May try more but really I'm not sure that I want to, hence rating down rather than up.
