I was really excited for this book as I LOVED We Were Liars. I know there are many mixed reviews for the book, but I found the family dynamic and story line just different than what I have read before and interesting. With this book, I was excited to have some knowledge of the family before the events in We Were Liars unfolded. It was hard for me to remember exactly what had happened in the book (I remembered the twist and some minor details.) I struggled at the beginning at first, especially since there really isn't a synopsis of We Were Liars. Overall, it was interesting to hear more from a different perspective of the family. I think Carrie was someone that isn't really relatable, but still intriguing to learn about. I didn't really know what to expect from her story, but I feel like at some points it was obvious (looking back.)

Overall, I think it was a quick read and I was into it for the most part. I loved the short chapters and I read this one in just over a day, so it did get me hooked, I just think We Were Liars was a much better story.

I enjoyed We Were Liars and was curious to see what the prequel was about. More plot twists? More grief and trauma? I was there for it.
The plot was average. The twist was small and didn't change my perception of the book. The grief and trauma was there, but I found the characters to be shallow and annoying.
SpoilerYou're looking for sex so you hook up with the first guy you see and are surprised that he's a cheater? Girl, who cares? It's your fault for not getting to know him first.

This series could have really done without Family of Liars. I regret reading this.

I absolutely loved this book.

This book would deserve the hype we were liars got because I didn’t like we were liars that much.

We were liars didn’t even need to be a book tbh. This book would’ve been enough because it was so much more well done in terms of writing and character development.

The reason I didn’t like we were liars was because I felt absolutely no connection to the characters and therefore didn’t care for anything that happened to them.

In this book I got to feel connected to the characters and I very much cared about what happened to them because we got to see more of them and spend time getting to know them very well.

I’m gonna be thinking about this book for awhile.

I’m giving this a very middle of the road score. 2.5/5 stars. I really enjoyed We We’re Liars, but this was very… meh. I really only finished it because I listened to it while driving and it was something to pass the time. The ending didn’t shock me even though I didn’t see it coming.

Now for the spoilers.

Okay so her sister keeps visiting her from the dead. Cool, but what’s the point? And yeah, she found out that her father isn’t her bio dad. I don’t really care. The only part that really kept my interest was at the very end when her father (Harris, I think his name was) basically tells her that he helped cover up the murder. But then it was over in like 5 minutes and that’s it. I don’t know. I guess I just wasn’t as captivated by this one than the first book. Also, what kind of a name is Yardley?

DNF at 10%. I get why many don’t like E. Lockhart.

After being awestruck by we were liars, I immediately picked this up at my local target. Needless to say, it sucks! So stupid, confusing, and boring. I swear E. Lockhart kills people for fun. She will be like:

“My sister jaquaviontavious is an Olympic swimmer who was swimming in safe waters that can’t get rough or turbulent. The caretaker, Okra, was ignorant and grilled dinner and wasn’t watching her and SHE DROWNED
